This
4-bedroom post-and-beam home is renowned for its authentic old
Vineyard farm setting, innovative and successful ecological
designs, and magnificent fragrant gardens both indoors and out.
A friendly burro and a dozen sheep graze in the wide open pastures.
Sunshine glints off the large natural pond, inhabited by several
kinds of turtles, frogs and fish. Great blue herons, egrets,
ospreys, ducks and geese are among the 50 different kinds of
birds that come visiting. The whole ecosystem is so well balanced
that there are practically no mosquitoes. Dragonflies and butterflies
and other wildlife enjoy the magnificent varied landscape, which
includes huge old oak and sycamore trees, as well as apple and
plum trees. The sky view is wide, perfect for stargazing. A
swing, a hammock and a picnic table are located in the shade
of large beautiful oak close to the house. The whole setting
is a truly peaceful and inspiring.
The first floor has a spacious living/dining/kitchen area, with
natural wood beams and paneling, hand-plastered walls and wide
plank pine floors. All is open to the 36-foot solarium/indoor
garden filled with fragrant flowers and herbs surrounding a
deep bath tub with shower. Double french doors lead to the 36-foot-wide
deck, partially shaded by a bamboo trellis. It has comfortable
chairs and benches, and is a great place to watch the sun set.
The living room has a Franklin fireplace and comfortable seating
for 10 or more. There is a Cardioglide to enable you to keep
fit.
The first floor also has a bathroom with marble sink, and raised
tub and shower, and a wonderful clean Solviva compostoilet in
the adjacent room.
The large kitchen has stenciled plaster walls, a 6-foot double
stainless sink, gas stove, old wood cook stove, wide butcher
block counters and a center island. It is fully equipped, except
- no dishwasher.
Carpeted stairs lead from the kitchen/dining area
to the open family room upstairs, flanked by 4 bedrooms. The
whole upstairs is painted warm yellow with red trim, with soft
green wall-to-wall carpeting. Two of the bedrooms have double
beds, and the two other bedrooms each have 2 single beds. There
also a daybed in the center family room. It's a perfect setup
for an extended family. The upstairs bathroom has shower, standard
flush toilet, 6-foot wide corian counter with sink, and linen
closet. All linens are provided, but please bring your own beach
towels. Off the family room is a laundry area with brand new
washer and drier, ironing board and iron.
In addition, there is a wonderful spacious outdoor
shower surrounded with honeysuckle and mimosa.
There are deck chairs, a picnic table, swings, hammock, charcoal
grill. Also beach chairs and umbrella.
For those who care about the quality of drinking water, no need
to buy bottled water, for this is the best, coming from the
top of the aquifer without being influenced by any septic systems.
This rental includes access to the spectacular West Tisbury
beaches, as well as tennis courts.
The Solviva home is available by the week, May
through October, except for mid-July through end of August.
May: $2100/wk, June: $2300/wk, July: $2600/wk, September: $2300/wk,
October: $2100/wk.
In addition there is a $200 fee for cleaning and trash, and
a $500 security deposit. References required.
